Montana Grass Fed Meats
Thousand Hills Lifetime Grazed is committed to sourcing local Grass Fed Beef from our ranch and farm partners nationwide. That is why our Montana customers always receive meat delivered from the closest Thousand Hills Regenerative Rancher.
Montana’s Big Sky Country is virtually synonymous with cattle ranching. Before cattle ranching, millions of bison roamed these grasslands, nourishing the soil as they moved. These native herbivores were almost wiped out in the 19th century, an extreme example of the damage man has caused to the natural ecosystem. Now, by using regenerative agricultural methods, grass fed cattle are helping to save the soils and restore biodiversity.
At a time when the world is threatened by greenhouse gases, the major driver of climate change, regenerative grazing aids in carbon sequestration. Carbon dioxide is not released into the atmosphere but is stored in plant roots and tissues.
Montana Grass Fed Beef
Montana ranks seventh nationally in beef production, with approximately 1.419 million cattle. The majority of those cattle are raised in a conventional manner, which includes time spent before processing in feedlots consuming huge amounts of corn. This form of industrial cattle production damages the environment.
Regenerative ranching aims to reverse that destruction and replenish soil health and protect water sources. It provides economic benefits to local ranchers and their communities. This holistic approach is an investment in rural communities.
Climate change threatens 25,000 Montana agricultural jobs in the next half-century. The good news is that more Montana ranchers and farmers are turning toward regenerative agriculture. While the exact number of ranchers and farmers using regenerative principles is difficult to determine, the number of those planting cover crops – a good indicator – has risen 489% over the past 10 years, as per the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
One of our Montana partners has been practicing holistic management on their 12,000 acre ranch for 30 years. Over that time, the family-run ranch has learned not only how to improve rangeland by using regenerative agricultural principles, but also how to coexist with the predators living among them.
None of our Regenerative Renegade Ranchers feed corn to their cattle or use antibiotics or growth hormones. Lands are not excessively tilled. Chemical pesticides and herbicides are not part of holistic management. Neither are synthetic fertilizers. The stewards of the land improve the soils today to preserve land for future generations.
