California Grass Fed Meats

California consists of more than 100 million acres of land. Of that, 38 million acres are range and pastureland, of which roughly half belong to the federal government. The state is home to 13,694 cattle ranches. It’s the fifth-largest cattle-producing state in the country.

While conventionally-raised beef cattle predominate, California is home to many grass fed livestock operations. Some of the oldest and largest ranches in the state practice sustainable beef production. For instance, the 20,000 acre V6 Ranch, located in Central California’s Cholame Valley, uses natural grazing methods. The owners have placed a conservation easement on the site, so that it remains permanent open space.

Thousand Hills Lifetime Grazed sources our steaks and other meats from local grass fed beef ranchers across the United States. No matter where you live in the U.S., your 100% grass fed beef order arrives from the Regenerative Rancher partner closest to your location. Our promise is to send you sustainably harvested beef shipped the shortest possible distance.

California Grass Fed Beef

California grass fed beef constitutes an ever-larger percentage of the state’s meat industry. The fight against climate change and greenhouse gases is strong in California, a state with a proven environmental record.

Restoring degraded soil’s biodiversity is the aim of regenerative ranching. Raising cattle holistically encourages carbon sequestration, helping to mitigate climate change. Water quality improves. Regenerative agriculture may literally save the planet.

Grass Fed, Grass Finished Beef

At Thousand Hills Lifetime Grazed, we provide our customers with only grass fed, grass finished beef.

It’s crucial to know how grass fed meat is labeled. The ordinary consumer reasonably believes that “Grass Fed” on the label means the animal consumed grass its entire life. That is not true. Grass fed cattle may have consumed grass or forage for most of their lives, but prior to slaughter, they spend several weeks in a feedlot for fattening. There, they eat grains and byproducts. They are confined and not roaming freely. Frankly, they are stressed, and that is not good for the animal or its meat.

Grass-fed, grass-finished beef cattle do not receive grain and are not confined to feedlots. They move freely on pasture or rangeland until processing. They are never given antibiotics or growth hormones. It does take longer for grass-fed, grass-finished beef to reach market weight, which is why this beef costs more than grain fed beef. The result is beef with less fat, lower cholesterol, and higher levels of nutrients.
